Sophie Grace Designs
About Sophie
Sophie Grace began designing with beads at the age of two. She quickly graduated from plastic to crystals, seed beads and semi precious stones. She is interested in minerals and had studies her Great Grandpa Leonard's collection.
At the age of four Sophie Grace turned her attention to fabric and the first design to be fabricated was the result of two flower designs that Sophie color coded instead of coloring. She directed the design, arranged the repeat mode and critiqued the color before the fabric wad printed. Her flowers on green fabric has been used for wall hangings, a pillow, and curtain trim. Sophie was 4 and a half when this design was completed.
For her 5th birthday she received a children's sewing machine which she is now saving for her sister, Lila. Sophie now works on a Husqvarna Viking Rose.

Crazy Quilt
This piece, 17”x 17” represents family history. The piece was constructed from scraps from Sophie’s Papa’s ties, Grandpa Steve’s ties and treasured scraps from Grandma Marjie’s stash. The lace was bought in New York in the late 1960s. After the square was constructed it was placed on Great Grandma Muriel’s hankie, then positioned on black velvet and bordered with pink and white ribbon from Grandma Marjie’s stash. Grandma Marjie constructed a companion piece and was struggling with the design. Sophie quietly came over to the table and said, “A triangle Grandma, not a square.” She then pinned the lace on the black velvet and described how she thought the piece should be finished.

The Class Project
The first Grade Quilt was made by Sophie’s class and at the request of Sophie’s teacher, Sophie and Grandma Marjie stitched it together. It was then machine quilted. In December, 2011, it was presented to Sophie’s teacher and hangs in the first grade class.

Flowers on Green
This piece was designed by Sophie from fabric that she had designed. The fabric came about from when Sophie and Grandma Marjie had lunch together on February day in 2010. All the art supplies that Grandma Marjie had brought that day were a pen and a few pieces of paper. Sophie was disappointed but said that she would color code her drawings. From the color coded picture we went to Photoshop Elements. Once the color was to Sophie’s liking, an image was sent to a fabric printer and yardage was printed. A number of quilts have been made from this fabric and scraps have been used to border curtains and to make a pillow.
